A Daughter-Father CFA® Team

Chuck and Margaret

With a love for investment analysis and helping others, our daughter-father team of Margaret Rubey Rust and Chuck Rubey opened our business in 1992 as a boutique Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Margaret carries the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, the most rigorous credential in investment management, as did Chuck during his tenure. Most advisors who hold this designation put their advanced investment knowledge to work in the institutional investment world, but we chose to serve individuals and families. We take great joy in building personal relationships and helping others nurture their wealth so that it can nurture them.

In addition to the CFA designation, Margaret holds the Personal Financial Planning (PFP) credential from UC Berkeley, which she uses to apply advanced investment research to personalized investment plans. Chuck held this distinction as well.

After Chuck passed in 2023, Margaret spent the next year handling all operations before being joined by our current COO, Elizabeth Eldridge, who now manages the functional side of the business.

We make it a point to get clients excited about their finances and invested in their future both monetarily and emotionally. Whether that means helping you pick stocks in companies you feel good about owning, helping you map out how to reach specific goals such as fully funding your retirement or your children’s education, or just keeping you up to date on changes in the market, we want you to take pride in your financial strategies and feel empowered that you are taking control of the future of your wealth.

What Makes Our Bay Area Firm Unique

  • We’re a boutique, independent, fee-only Registered Investment Advisor (RIA).

  • We take the time to get to know you and understand what you’re looking to achieve.

  • We don’t use cookie-cutter “model portfolios” but instead build custom investment portfolios for each client.

  • We conduct our own internal investment analysis instead of outsourcing it to a third-party money manager.

  • We specialize in cash flow planning and can build portfolios to help provide you with multiple income streams.

  • Our proprietary LifeTime CashFlow analysis can help project how your wealth and income are likely to flow throughout your life.

  • Our founders carry the CFA designation, the most rigorous credential in the investment management industry.

Margaret Rubey Rust, CFA
Managing Director

Margaret serves as the managing director of Rubey & Rust, where she leads our team by supporting client needs and conducting original investment research. She carries the CFA designation and holds a Personal Financial Planning (PFP) credential from UC Berkeley.

Margaret grew up in Orinda and went to UC Davis, where she studied finance but majored in textiles and clothing. She earned her PFP with her father, Chuck Rubey, while working her “day job” at Nordstrom. After graduating in 1992, she and Chuck started Rubey & Rust Capital Management. Subsequently, they earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Margaret works with clients of all types and would call herself a wealth manager or “creating wealth” manager.  She loves what she does and enjoys helping people reduce their stress over their investments.

Elizabeth Eldridge, MBA
COO

Elizabeth serves as COO, handling most functional business operations and assisting in all other domains. She previously had a 25+ year career in tech, holding senior positions in finance and sales across multiple businesses at both the startup and major corporate levels.

Prior to settling in Alamo, CA in 2000, she called the northeast home, spending her formative years in New York State near Albany and later completing her undergraduate degree at Harvard followed by an MBA at UNC Chapel Hill. She is the mother of three sons and as a retired triathlete, a lover of all things fitness.

Chuck Rubey, CFA
”Founding Father”

The “Founding Father” of Rubey & Rust Capital Management, Chuck started the firm with Margaret in 1992 where he remained actively involved for over 30 years before his eventual passing in July 2023. His influence can be felt to this day, and the principles he followed to deliver the first-class advisory service he did will always be foundational to our approach.

Before RRCM’s inception, Chuck had a 30-year career in sales and systems engineering at IBM. He held the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in addition to an MBA and Personal Financial Planning credential from UC Berkeley.
